Downtime monitoring in a manufacturing plant

Data collection, a live dashboard and threshold alerts for a plant that learns a machine has stopped only at the end of the shift.

Example scenarios

The cases on this page are example scenarios that show how we work. They are not real client work or measured results. Real projects we have permission to publish will be added and marked as such.

Situation

Picture a plant with several machines running. Stoppages are noticed through an operator's verbal or handwritten report, and the records are gathered at the end of each shift.

Problem

The time between a stoppage and hearing about it becomes lost production hours. How long each machine stood still is never recorded reliably either, so recurring faults stay hidden.

Approach

  1. 01

We take the data from the machine

We read whether the machine is running or stopped from its existing controller. If that isn't possible, we get the same information from an added sensor.

  2. 02

We bring it to a live dashboard

Which machine is running, which has stopped and for how long: visible on one screen, in real time.

  3. 03

    We set up threshold alerts

When a stoppage passes a set length of time, the right person gets a message. The plant itself decides the duration and who is told.

What you receive

  • Data collection service
  • Live monitoring dashboard
  • Alert rules
  • Handover document

How success is measured

We write the success measure together at the start of a project, for example how long a stoppage takes to be noticed. In a real project we measure it before and after the system and report the result to you.
